Dog Beds For Large Dogs

Dog Beds for Large Dogs have to be both strong, big enough to handle the dog's size, and comfortable. Some large dog breeds can easily weigh more than 100 lbs so make sure any dog bed you buy can handle both size and weight of your dog.

One of the most popular designs in large dog beds is a bean bag style. These are usually filled with some type of bean that shifts around and allows the dog to get the proper support. They are also made out of many different materials to resist wear and tear. One caution, these types of dog beds are not for dogs that like to chew since the beans will spill out if covering is damaged. And dogs will often eat the beans which usually will mean a trip to the vet..

There are are also platform dog beds that have a strong material stretched out in a raised platform. These are great for keeping the dog cool in the summer months and the cloth can be replaced if necessary. They also come with waterproof material that will not mildew, shrink, or loose their shape if wet. In the colder months you can fold up a blanket to provide a little more insulation.

Just like any style or size of dog bed you can find any of the large dog beds made out of memory foam, chew resistant material, and micro fiber. They come in round, square, and rectangular shapes too. Some have washable covers, fleece like material, and extra padding for your older dogs. Most are designed with the large dog in mind and come in sizes from 46" by 36" and up to twice that size.

Due to the size and the amount of materials, most larger dog beds start off at around $50 and can go 2-3 times that price depending on the materials. Some are even designed to look like human beds and couches although you will pay a premium for that kind of design.

A good rule of thumb on size is to measure your dog fully stretched out and make sure that the bed is slightly larger. Also make sure that you have the space required for this type of large dog bed at the intended location. These large dog beds can be up to 6 feet long and 3 feet wide. That's a big chunk of area needed to place the dog bed.

Since dog beds for large dogs need to be able to stand up against much more mass and maybe a little more wear and tear due to the size of the dog you need to take a hard look at the stress points. Seams need to be heavily reinforced, any support material needs to be able to handle the weight, and any covering needs to be tear resistant.

Also check to see if the cover is removable for washing. Stain resistant and waterproof is a very good thing to have too. Many models are treated with Anti-Odor ScotchGard which protects the material and keeps the dog odors down. Some models are also reversable which is good for keeping the stuffing from getting matted down and un repsonsive.

Dog beds for large dogs can keep your pet off of the regular furniture and provide a comfortable palce for your dog to sleep. The $50 to $100 dollars you spend on the dog bed can save you much bigger dollars on the wear and tear on your regular furniture.
